** Price range does NOT include the initial site work e.g. shrub and tree removal, sod and soil excavation, levelling/grading, retaining walls, drainage, irrigation modification etc. We would need to visit the site (assuming it is within our service area) to assess the needs/costs as the site preparation cost is always site specific.

10. Is Sport Court a member of a cooperative purchasing alliance?

Yes. Sport Court is a contract holder with the GSA and Sourcewell (formally the NJPA).

Please contact us for more details.

11. Is a backyard Sport Court a good investment?

We believe a court is generally a good investment for your house – and we are sure that it is an even better investment for your family.

12. What do families/communities love about their courts?

There are many reasons why families/communities choose to install an outdoor game court. Here are a few of the most common ones:

  • A Sport Court is a safe place for the kids & whole family to play. A lot of parents want their house to be the hangout house - so that they can watch their kids grow up and get to know their friends too.
  • It is great alternative to device/screen time. It is fun, healthy and can be used by all ages.
  • You can conveniently practice/train in your own backyard or at your community court.
  • Installing a court can transform an underused part of a yard into a highly functional and low maintenance place to play.
  • Whether we are installing a brand new court, or refurbishing an old and underutilized slab, a Sport Court is a great place for families and communities to come together.

13. What is the process?

We are a full service contractor so we can do as much of the project as you need (dependent on location). There are a number of stages:

  • SHOWROOM MEETING: Normally we start with a meeting at our showroom (appointment only). At the showroom you will learn more about the different sports, sizes and layouts. As well as the surface and equipment options. We can then give you an itemized quote(s) based on your preferences (for everything except the site preparation).
  • SITE MEETING: After meeting at the showroom, if needed, we will visit your yard/communal space to assess the site preparation needs/costs.
  • FINALIZE DESIGN: Our custom designs allow you to personalize your court colors and configuration.
  • SITE PREPARATION WORK: This stage includes everything needed to create a flat area for the court e.g. the clearing, excavation, levelling, retaining walls (if any), drainage and irrigation modification etc. As mentioned, this stage is NOT included in the budget ranges listed above as the needs/costs are always site specific.
  • FOUNDATION: We either pour a concrete slab or install our SportBase material. At this stage the necessary equipment anchors and sleeves are embedded in concrete footings.
  • SURFACE AND ACCESSORIES: This is the fun part. The equipment is built, the surface is installed and the playing lines are painted.
  • GET PLAYING: Tidy up around the court and enjoy playing for many years to come!

14. How can we customize our court - can we choose multiple colors?

Customizing your court is the fun part. Apart from the size and layout, here are some things you can do to make your court unique:

  • COLORS: Whether it’s your school colors, or a scheme that will compliment your house, yard or personal style, you can mix and match from our many standard colors. If desired, we can also match any custom color of your choice (additional fees apply for custom colors).
  • GAME LINES: You can design your court to include the playing lines for all the sports and games you want to play.
  • CUSTOM LOGOS: Add an extra personal touch to your backyard court with a logo of your favorite team, alma mater, or your family name/crest. For your community/facility court, you can include your own logo and/or sponsor logos (additional fees apply for custom logos).
  • ACCESSORIES: We have adjustable height center net systems for pickleball, short tennis, badminton and volleyball. As well as basketball hoops, tetherball, futsal goals, hockey goals and dasher boards. You can also add fencing, rebounders/play back walls and if you want to keep playing after the sun goes down, we have a range of lighting options too.

See our Design page and check out our Gallery for more ideas.

15. Where do you do work?

We are the exclusive Sport Court distributor for Washington State, Northern Idaho and Alaska:

  • Surface and Equipment installation: Entire territory.
  • Foundation/Concrete work: Up to 2 hours’ drive from our Kirkland location.
  • Site Preparation work: Up to 45 minutes’ drive from our Kirkland location.

If you are outside these areas. Then we can work with your local contractor to make sure your court is done right.

16. What is your lead time?

Our lead time for outdoor projects (from when we receive a contract to when we start work) varies depending on the time of year and other factors e.g. the size and scope of the project. In our slower season, our lead time might be just 2 weeks, however, in the heart of our busy season, this might grow to as much as 12 weeks. So we highly recommend planning ahead.

17. How long does it take to install a court?

Once we start working on your project - depending on the scope of work we are doing - the installation can take just a couple of days or as long as one month.

18. Do I need a permit to build a backyard court?

Potentially - In some communities, you may be required to get certain permits/variances before building your backyard/community game court. There may be some restrictions on size, proximity to your property line, drainage, fencing, or lights. Please note, we leave ALL permitting to the homeowner.

19. What are your surfaces installed on?

Sport Court surfaces can be installed on concrete, asphalt or our SportBase material. We do not install our surfaces over crushed rock, dirt or grass.

20. What is SportBase?

SportBase was invented by Sport Court as an alternative to pervious concrete. Typically we have used SportBase on smaller half court/shooting courts (the average court size for our SportBase courts is approx. 850 sq. ft.), however, we have installed a number of multipurpose courts too.

SportBase has numerous benefits:

  • SAFETY and FORGIVENESS: Increased head impact rating and shock absorption.
  • DRAINAGE: The highly pervious design means there will be no water runoff reducing drainage needs and potentially avoiding hardscape/impervious surface restrictions.
  • ECO-FRIENDLY: 100% recycled (and recyclable) material and much more environmentally friendly than concrete.
  • FLEXIBILITY: Our game courts are normally permanent installations, however, the modular design means it can also be portable. If desired, the court can be made smaller/larger in the future or it can be picked up and moved (or even sold) if needed.

SportBase also has some compromises:

  • SETTLING: Since the base is modular, if the ground/subbase settles then the base will follow. This typically only happens when the prep work for the court area requires a large amount of fill. If this occurs, it is easy and cheap to fix and the settling will stop over time.
  • BALL REBOUND: As the base is modular and more forgiving, the ball response will be lower and potentially slightly more irregular than a concrete based court. This is not really noticeable with high energy balls e.g. foam and air filled balls (although we do recommend pumping basketballs up to their max psi). Please note, the plastic pickleball will NOT bounce well on this type of court - we recommend using the indoor/foam pickleball instead.

Please visit our Products page to learn more and to see a video about SportBase. We can help you decide whether SportBase is the right option for your court.

21. Can we do the site preparation work ourselves?

Yes. If you have a landscape contractor that you want to work with and/or if the court is part of a larger backyard/landscaping remodel. Then you can prep the court area to our recommended specifications.

If you are located further away from our office, or if the project is very large and/or complex, then we do not offer site preparation. In these instances, it is easier – and more economical – for you to use a local contractor.

22. Can we do the concrete foundation ourselves?

Although we like to do our own concrete work when possible (for quality control reasons), if you are either outside our work area for concrete, or if you want to work with another contractor, then you can do this stage yourselves. Please note, this is a very important stage, as the concrete work affects the performance of the court surface – here are a few things to consider:

  • Make sure whoever you use is confident that they can do the work to our recommended specifications. If you are doing other concrete work at the same time, then it might be more economical to use one contractor for all the work – however, still make sure they do this kind of concrete work.
  • Whoever does the concrete work is responsible for setting the equipment anchors and sleeves (we will provide the hardware and instructions).

23. We already have a slab, can you install a Sport Court surface?

Yes we can. Our modular surfaces can be retrofitted to transform an old concrete or asphalt slab. The modular surface will disguise most imperfections in the existing slab, however, you might need to do some cleaning and repair/patching work first.

24. What are the surface options?

We have a range of modular surfaces as well as a heavy duty acrylic coating option.

Please see our Products page for further information.

25. Do you paint lines on bare concrete or on an existing coated/acrylic court?

No. We do NOT offer line painting on bare concrete or on existing acrylic/coated courts.

26. Do you recoat/repaint tennis courts?

No. This is a service that we do NOT currently offer.

27. Why is a Sport Court surface important - can’t we just play on concrete?

No other outdoor sports surface can deliver a better combination of shock absorption, ball response, traction, and playability than our outdoor modular flooring:

  • SAFETY: Our patented Lateral Forgiveness and vertical shock absorption provides safety for children and adults in reducing the risk of injury and stress on your joints. Learn more about our safety.
  • DURABILITY & LONGEVITY: Our surfaces are highly durable and very long lasting (backed with a 15 year limited warranty). So you can play any sport/game or use the court as a multipurpose area without risking damage.
  • LOW MAINTENANCE: Looking after your modular court surface is simple. With a little care it will stay great looking for many years.
  • LOW LIFE CYCLE COSTS: Because the surface does not need to be reapplied/repainted. When combined with the longevity and easy maintenance the life cycle costs are lower than alternative sport surfaces.
  • PLAYABILITY / DRAINAGE: Sport Court game courts can be utilized for year round entertainment and recreation. The open grid design allows water to pass through so you can have more hours enjoying your court.
  • FLEXIBILITY: The vast majority of our installations are permanent. However, if needed, our surfaces can be picked up and stored/moved (or even sold) if needed.

28. Is the surface slippery when wet?

Any surface — whether grass, artificial turf, or even concrete or asphalt — will be more slippery when wet. Sport Court’s open-grid design sheds water quickly, making it possible to return to action sooner than any other surface. You can use your court year round, however, we do recommend adjusting your play according to the conditions.

29. How long will our game court last?

Sport Court game courts are constructed with the highest quality and most durable materials, as well as backed with an industry leading warranty. When combined with our 40+ years of installation expertize, we expect your court to deliver decades of safe, fun, play for your family or community.

30. How do we maintain our game court?

Durability and ease of maintenance are a few qualities your game court exemplifies. Routine maintenance is simple and easy: A broom, blower, or hose can be used to keep the top surface free of debris, and since water drains quickly through the open grid, your court is ready for play soon after cleaning or inclement weather. If a deeper clean is needed, we have a year-round service crew that can perform a subsurface cleaning for you (additional fees apply).

31. If the sports surface becomes damaged, how difficult is it to replace?

Our surfaces are constructed of durable polypropylene. In the unlikely event that there is damage, with our patented interlocking flooring system, replacing a section or even a single tile is cheap and easy.

32. What ongoing service do you offer?

If your court has any issues we can fix them. We offer cleaning, light bulb replacement, center net replacements and more. Please note, for liability reasons, we only perform service work on Sport Court branded equipment/surfaces.

33. In what ways is Sport Court (and Sport Court WA) better than other companies?

  • ORIGINAL & AUTHENTIC: Sport Court is the original brand that invented the backyard game court. Locally, Sport Court WA was established in 1976 (we are the first certified Sport Court Courtbuilder) and we have now completed over 6000 projects.

Typically the price is will be between $5 and $11 + tax per sq. ft. This range does NOT include any prep work e.g. removing an existing surface or repairing/levelling an existing slab:

The price of your court is dependent on a number of factors:

16. What is your lead time?

18. Can we install the surface ourselves?

Yes. If desired you can do some, or all, of the installation.

19. How well does the ball bounce compare to other basketball floors?

DIN-certified basketball floors must deliver a minimum 90% ball response, but we don’t believe in bare minimums. Our modular surfaces range from 93% to 100% ball response.

20. We have an existing slab – can we install one of your sport surfaces?

Yes, we can upgrade your existing slab in just a few days. Our surfaces disguise most concrete imperfections, however, you might need to do some repairs/levelling prior to installing the sport surface.

21. Our court currently has a different surface – can we install one of your sport surfaces over the top?

Potentially. Often we can retrofit our sport surface over the existing flooring. This is the most economical option (especially if the existing flooring has any hazardous chemicals in it – making it difficult and costly to remove). However, if the flooring is in bad condition or is too soft, then it will need to be removed.

22. Does Sport Court use any hazardous chemicals or materials in its manufacturing process or installation?

For more information or to purchase equipment/supplies we recommend Moriah cleaning products

12. What are the benefits of the Pacific Pearl system?

The Pacific Pearl system offers a vast improvement over old surfaces:

  • GREAT LOOKING: New technology and unparalleled performance all combined with a beautiful traditional look.
  • TRUE ROLL: Pure oyster and decomposed granite courts are dusty to play on and become compacted and rutted over time - you really don’t want your bocce ball to be rolling in the last player's roll line - the resilient Pacific Pearl surface is designed to stay flat so that you have the truest/fairest roll without the ongoing maintenance.
  • DURABILITY and LONGEVITY: Unlike the turf products used for synthetic lawns, which are green and have fibers which collapse over time. The Pacific Pearl bocce system uses a proprietary weather treated dual poly fabric. The spacing and structure of the fibers are designed for locking in the cushioned mid layer of sub angular sands and oyster shell blend so that you can use the court for continued play over the long term without the time consuming and expensive upkeep.
  • LOW MAINTENANCE: Forget rollers, hoses, brooms and rakes – old school surfaces are prone to compaction, rutting, pooling, as well as being medium for moss growth and organic matter integrating into the surface - it’s more fun to spend your time enjoying the game rather than looking after the court.

13. What is the process?

We are a full service contractor so we can do as much of the project as you need (dependent on location). There are a number of stages:

  • SITE MEETING: If you are within our full construction service area. We will meet at your site to discuss the best location for the court, take detailed measurements, and assess the site preparation needs/costs.
  • SITE PREPARATION: This includes everything that might be needed to create a clear and level space for the court e.g. excavation, levelling (including retaining walls as needed), grading, drainage, irrigation modification etc.
  • CONSTRUCT TIMBER FRAME: Once the area is cleared and levelled. Hand selected 6" x 10" Pacific Northwest cedar timbers are cut to length, drilled, anchored and stained. For the subbase, the geotextile fabric and the drain rock layers are imported, fine graded and compacted.
  • CUSTOM FIBER LAYER: The proprietary tan fiber layer is imported, stretched, trimmed and anchored. This layer is critical for keeping the court flat and for locking in the cushioned mid layer and oyster shell blend. It also has a custom perforated urethane backing for the correct drainage.
  • SURFACE:The next step is to place, compact and power broom the mid sub-angular cushioned layer, before the final 3/8” of our special hand blended oyster flour and crushed carpenter oyster is applied. The surface is specifically designed to improve ball roll as well as ball deadness and to virtually eliminate ball roll marks/dents that reduce the ability to roll the ball with any consistency.
  • HAVE FUN: Find a partner (or gather a party), pour some drinks and get playing!

14. Where do you work?

We are the exclusive BBOA dealer for Washington State.

  • Site preparation and full construction: Including frame construction and subbase installation: Up to 1 hours’ drive from our Kirkland location.
  • Pacific Pearl system installation (fiber and surface only): Entire territory*.

15. What is your lead time?

Our lead time for bocce courts (from when we receive a contract to when we start work) varies depending on the time of year and other factors e.g. the size and scope of the project. In our slower season, our lead time might be just 2 weeks, however, in the heart of our busy season, this might grow to as much as 12 weeks. So we highly recommend planning ahead.

16. How long does it take to install a bocce court?

Once the area is prepped/levelled – the length of this stage will vary depending on how much work is needed as well as other considerations such as access and weather etc. – the rest of the installation (frame construction, subbase installation, fiber and surface) will take approximately 1 week.

17. Can we do the site preparation work or timber frame construction ourselves?

Yes. If you have a landscape contractor that you want to work with and/or if the court is part of a larger backyard/landscaping remodel. Then you can prep the court area to our recommended specifications.

If you are located outside our service area, or if the project is very large and/or complex, then we do not offer site preparation. In these instances, it is easier – and more economical – for you to use a local contractor.

18. Can we install the Pacific Pearl System ourselves?

No. The Pacific Pearl bocce system must be completed by a trained installer.

19. We already have a Bocce court – can we upgrade to the Pacific Pearl system?

Yes, the Pacific Pearl system can be retrofitted in most situations.

20. How long will the court last?

BBoA and Sport Court WA use only the highest quality and most durable materials and are covered by a 2-year limited warranty, although we expect them to deliver playability, safety, and durability for much longer.

21. How do we maintain our bocce court?

One of the biggest benefits of the Pacific Pearl bocce surface is that you don’t have to work hard (or spend much money) to keep your court looking good and playing great. So you can enjoy playing the game rather than worrying about ball marks, dents, or the accumulation of organic materials.

Since organic materials do not work their way into the Pacific Pearl bocce surface like they would with traditional oyster shell, clay or decomposed granite courts from the past. For routine maintenance, simply blow the surface clean of any leaves and twigs etc. and give the court an occasional light raking to stop any moss growth. After a few years, if you want to freshen up your court, some extra finishing material can be added if desired.

22. What ongoing service do you offer?

Although rare, if your court has any issues we can fix them for you.

1. How long has Sport Court WA been in business?

Sport Court WA was established in 1976.

2. How many projects have you completed?

In total, we have completed over 6000 projects locally – including hundreds of synthetic lawns and putting greens - so you can be assured that our expertise and experience ensures that your project will be completed with the skill and care it deserves. We are honored that referrals are continually our largest source of new business.

3. Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, we are fully licensed and insured. So you can have peace of mind that you are working with a legal, safe and credible company.

4. What turf products do you offer?

We install a range of the highest quality sport, pet, landscape, putting and fringe turfs. For certain projects we also install a panel base or shock pad beneath the turf.

5. Who do you install synthetic turf and putting greens for?

We install indoor and outdoor synthetic turf and putting greens for private residences, communities, as well as companies and commercial facilities.

6. How much space do we need for a putting green?

There are NO set sizes and we can customize your green to fit any space. However, greens typically start around 300 sq. ft. and can be as large as your space/budget allows.

7. Where do you work?

For synthetic turf and artificial putting green projects we work up to 1 hours’ drive from our Kirkland location.

8. How expensive is a synthetic lawn?

The price of your synthetic lawn is dependent on volume/size, shape of the area (which dictates how much wasted material there will be), quality of turf, site access, other materials and scope of work:

  • Typically synthetic turf/lawns/fields range from $12 to $18 + tax per sq. ft.*

* This price range normally includes the sod removal, soil excavation, filter fabric, standard crushed rock base and turf installation.

* This price range does NOT include a panel base, shock pad, or any additional site work e.g. shrub and tree removal, retaining walls, extra excavation, drainage, irrigation modification etc. If this work is required we will need to visit the site to assess the needs/costs as the site preparation cost is always site specific.

9. How expensive is an artificial putting green?

The price of your artificial putting green is dependent on volume/size, shape (which dictates how much wasted material there will be), quality of putting and fringe turf, number of cups, site access, other materials and scope of work:

  • Typically artificial putting greens range from $22 to $28 + tax per sq. ft.*

* This price range normally includes the sod removal, soil excavation, multiple filter fabric layers, multiple crushed rock layers, fine grading/contouring, panel base and turf installation.

* This price range does NOT include any additional site work e.g. shrub and tree removal, retaining walls, extra excavation, drainage, irrigation modification etc. If this work is required we will need to visit the site to assess the needs/costs as the site preparation cost is always site specific.

10. Are there accessories available for purchase?

Yes. We offer a range of lights, fencing, rebounders, playback walls, batting cages, tetherball, goals and more.

11. Is financing available?

Yes, for residential projects: www.familyfunfinancing.com

For commercial/community projects: http://lscfinancial.com

For municipal financing: www.nationalcooperativeleasing.com

Please note, financing is offered by third parties. Sport Court (or Sport Court WA) does NOT have any input regarding approvals and/or loan terms.

12. What are the benefits of synthetic turf and/or an artificial putting green?

There are numerous benefits:

  • DURABLE and GREAT LOOKING: It is hard to keep a lawn looking good in the Pacific Northwest climate – and even harder in high use areas and/or when dogs are involved - a synthetic turf area and/or artificial putting green drains great and will stay looking good year round.
  • EASY MAINTENANCE and LOW LIFE CYCLE COST: No more mowing, watering, pesticides or fertilizing etc. So you can spend more time (and less money) enjoying your lawn/green instead of maintaining it. It is better for the environment too.
  • LOWER HANDICAP: Instead of heading to your local golf club or driving range. You can conveniently practice your short game and bring your handicap down.

13. What is the process?

We are a full service contractor so we can do as much of the project as you need (dependent on location). There are a number of stages:

  • SITE MEETING: If you are within our service area, we will meet at your site to take detailed measurements and assess the site preparation needs/costs – if you are looking to install a putting green we will also discuss the best location/design for your space.
  • SITE PREPARATION: This includes everything that might be needed to create a clear and level space for the field/green e.g. excavation, levelling (including retaining walls as needed), grading, drainage, irrigation modification etc.
  • CRUSHED ROCK BASE COURSE: Once the area is excavated and levelled, we install a layer of filter fabric and a crushed rock base course. For putting greens we install numerous layers of filter fabric and multiple layers of crushed rock to build breaks.
  • PANEL BASE or SHOCK PAD INSTALLATION (for certain projects only): For putting greens we install a panel base between the layers of crushed rock and the putting/fringe turf. The panels are integral in making sure the green has the truest roll and will stay that way over the long term. We do NOT install our putting greens directly over a crushed rock base as the end product is inferior, will require far more maintenance, and will deteriorate over time. For certain projects we will install a shock pad for increased safety/forgiveness.
  • TURF INSTALLATION: The turf(s) of your choice are imported, stretched, cut and anchored.
  • ENJOY: Start using your synthetic lawn/field or hit the green and get working on your short game.

14. What is your lead time?

Our lead time for artificial turf and putting greens (from when we receive a contract to when we start work) varies depending on the time of year and other factors e.g. the size and scope of the project. In our slower season, our lead time might be just 2 weeks, however, in the heart of our busy season, this might grow to as much as 12 weeks. So we highly recommend planning ahead.

15. How long does it take to install a synthetic lawn/field or artificial putting green?

Depending on the scope of work and other considerations such as access and weather etc. The installation typically takes between 1 and 2 weeks. However, the project might take longer if a lot of clearing/levelling is needed.

16. Can we do the site preparation work ourselves?

Yes. If you have a landscape contractor that you want to work with, then you can prep the area to our recommended specifications.

17. Is your synthetic turf pet friendly?

Yes. The turf is safe for your pet and they will also love the feel of it. It is antimicrobial and does not contain hazardous chemicals. You will love how it resists brown spots and that it stays looking great year round even with heavy use.

18. Does synthetic turf get hotter than real grass?

Yes. Real grass stays cooler because of its water content. However, in extreme temperatures, you can always give it a quick hose down to cool it off.

19. How long will the artificial turf/putting green last?

Sport Court WA uses only the highest quality and most durable materials, which are covered by a 10-year limited warranty, although we expect them to deliver great looks and function for considerably longer.

20. Why do you install a panel base under the putting green turf?

The panel base technology has numerous benefits for putting greens as well as for some sport/landscape turf applications:

  • TRUEST ROLL: The patented interlocking system allows the panels to flow easily over crowned and contoured areas creating breaks approved by the USGA. Unlike greens installed directly over a crushed rock base, on a panel base green, the roll and line of your putt will stay true without the ongoing maintenance.
  • LOW MAINTENANCE and LONGEVITY: Adding a panel base will increase the lifetime of the green/turf and you won’t need to re-level, re-seam, re-fill, broom or weed over time. So you can spend time working on your short game instead of looking after your green.
  • INCREASED DRAINAGE: The panels help the turf drain faster (even with the thickest turf - that has infill - the vertical drainage rate is still 145 inches per hour). The underside of the panels provide a retention space which keeps the water away from the turf whilst it is percolating into the crushed rock base below.
  • FLEXIBILITY: Unlike a concrete based green. A panel based green provides the same (or even better) quality, but can be as permanent or temporary as you want it to be.
  • SAFETY: For sport applications, the design of the panel allows the energy which occurs during falls and play to dissipate away from the athlete. This vertical forgiveness makes the surface a safer place to play.

21. How do we maintain our turf/green?

Easy maintenance is one of the biggest benefits of synthetic turf. Use a leaf blower or rake to clear any leaves and/or debris and you can use a hose to rinse down pet areas if needed.

22. What ongoing service do you offer?

Although rare, if your synthetic turf or artificial putting green has any issues we can fix them for you.
